Looking for a way to add a handmade touch to your holiday gifts for boys? While I have seen lots and lots of adorable hand crafted gift ideas for girls, not so much seems to exist for boys. I thought I would share a collection of things I have made over the years that are geared more to the young men in our lives.
I have always believed that taking time to create a special wrapping or container makes any gift look much more special. I added a few stickers and embellishments to this clear paint can and now the bag of dinos from the dollar store looks like something from an upscale toy shop.
Speaking of paint cans... don't forget about the $1 empty cans you can buy from the hardware store... they make great containers for gifts. This one doubles as a place for my son to keep his favorite baseball cards and souvenir ball he caught at a game. I added magnets to the back of the charms so that the can doubles as a mini bulletin board.
Cropped a few favorite baseball shots into circles to create a mini tag album to hang from the handle.
Christmas gifts at our house always include new books... how about a handmade bookmark to go with them?
Kids love things for their room too... like an altered $1 wooden frame for their favorite sports photo...
or how about a custom lamp shade? This was very inexpensive from IKEA... painted the fabric shade with blue metallic paint and then die cut ribbon which was treated with RibbonStiff.
I created a special pull for the lamp too by attaching more ribbon and a charm to beaded chain.
Here is a simple altered chalk board for the budding mathematician.
Or a bulletin board for your little firefighter (inexpensive wooden frame with cork tile inserted in place of the picture).
Or for boys who like to play dress up... a set of stickers with some chipboard backing for strength and a pin backing from the craft store are all you need. My oldest used to love to play police... I remember coming home one time and finding my dad (the babysitter!) handcuffed to a chair. ☺
Boys also like signs to hang on their doors...
and every boy needs a place to keep their special treasures.
Now, if anyone has some ideas for handcrafted gifts for teenage boys please let me know!
