Happy Groundhog's Day! hoping for good news from Punxsutawney Phil this year!

I'm back today with a few of the birthday projects I created for Me & My Big Ideas. Their products are so bright and colorful - perfect for a celebration. First up is a cake I created... started with an inexpensive styrofoam cake round from a local cake supply store. Covered it with paper, gathered ribbon, handmade paper flowers, die cut flourishes, and a custom banner... lots of fun to make!

And every party needs an invitation!

and favors... these were made with my Silhouette and would be easy and inexpensive to reproduce (if you have an electronic die cutting machine)... otherwise a bit more time consuming, but still not too difficult. An easier option is to cover paper towel rolls with patterned paper.

I love to add custom touches to birthday parties... of course, these days my 12, 15, and 17 year-old would die if I tried to hand out any fancy party favors... or even sent a handmade invitation... so for the time being, my birthday paper crafting is somewhat limited to design work projects.

Dragon

Hi there - a couple more projects featuring the Dragon line released by Karen Foster Design in October. Hoping to be able to show some projects from the new CHA lines soon - they have some really fun things being released next week!

This is a gift box that I created with a twist of having the lid turned inside out, creating a shadow box effect. I just attached longer pieces of brown cardstock to each side of the lid and then trimmed them at an angle. If you had to mail the gift, the flaps could be tucked back down for shipping.

I love this Dragon's Gate paper - reminds me of the movie Shrek... there are lots of fun carvings on the paper - here is a full sheet - almost too cute to cut up.

I added some gold mini brads to the hinges on the door and used Scrapper's Floss to attach a gift tag made with a coordinating sticker.

 

Here is a layout with a few photos of reading to the boys when they were younger... I wish we had had a better camera back then... but at least I'm glad that I've always been good about taking lots of photos. I think there are exactly 5 photos of me growing up :) 

 I like to add a bit of dimension to layouts - here I've cut the dragon sticker apart and added a bit of foam tape - also some googly eyes.

I also added some stitching (using a marker... not that proficient with my new sewing machine yet!) and a few sparkle brads.

Still snowing on and off here... my favorite kind... looks pretty, but not enough to be a pain... we're only expecting another inch or so. Enjoy today!
