I love the fall - it's my favorite season by far - warm, sunny days (but not that awful humidity of summer) and cool, crisp nights where you can leave the windows open and snuggle under a down comforter. It is so beautiful here in New England with the leaves starting to change, the apples all ready to be picked and pumpkins starting to appear everywhere.
I was thinking about some of the little changes that signal fall here...just this morning I made oatmeal for the first time since last spring (Irish Oatmeal that comes in a can - so easy to do - just soak overnight and heat up in the morning - the kids love it and it is so much better than the stuff in the packets - especially when you add brown sugar, toasted pecans and dried cranberries). I also noticed that I've stopped opening the door to the screened porch every morning - it's just a bit too cool. Time to start making soup again and dusting off the old crock pot. Lots of things to love about fall.
One of the holidays we like the best is Halloween (especially here in Massachusetts - home of the infamous Salem witches). We usually have a big family dinner - last year we expanded it quite a bit to include several other families - followed by group trick or treating. I have loads of Halloween projects, recipes and ideas to share here over the next month or so, but I thought I'd start small with a simple paper crafted bag to hold some candy treats.
I used my bag-a-mite template and some assorted papers and stickers. The only change I made was instead of folding the top of the bag down, I cut it in a curved shape. The mini rick-rack is from The Ribbon Jar - a great site for ribbon addicts (Sherry - you might want to stay away). So easy and quick to make - they look cute on the table as decorations and then everyone can take one home as a favor.
Happy Fall! ...oh, and if you have any favorite Halloween decorating ideas, recipes, or other traditions, I'd love it if you could share - thanks!
Those are adorable little bags Alice, the witch sticker is my favorite too. Your Irish Oatmeal sounds yummy, we may have to try that. My daughter eats one of those packets you talked about every single day!
