My oldest son is a high school senior and we are right in the middle of the whole college application hell process. As I was helping him proofread the final versions of his essays last night before hitting the "send" button, I was torn between feeling incredibly proud of him and how hard he has worked and with wanting to shake him and say "I told you so! I KNEW you would be doing this the night before they were due! Why didn't you listen to me over the summer and start then?!!" ugh. But he did manage to get them all in with plenty of time to spare... I think the last one was sent at 11:37pm and wasn't even due until midnight.
So I woke up this morning with college on my mind and thought I would share two cards I've made recently for friends who are celebrating college achievements.
The first is for the daughter of a friend who is in the process of applying to medical school. This girl has worked harder than just about anyone I've ever known and if she represents the caliber of the next generation of doctors in this country, then I think we are in good hands.
I used a vellum envelope and a stamp by Maya Road to write her a prescription for relaxation. Therm O Web's Vellum Adhesive Runner was perfect for this - the adhesive doesn't show at all.
I used a matchbook style card and the front tucks behind this to stay closed.
This is what the card looks like when opened (the bottom flap would also be a perfect place to tuck a small gift).
I thought Papertrey Ink's Congrats All Ways set was perfect for this card.
The Chemistry paper is from Jillibean Soup and the stethoscope embellishment is from Karen Foster Design.
The second card is for one of my son's rowing teammates who has been recruited to Yale. Couldn't find any rowing themed scrapbooking supplies out there, so I had to make my own. I found the rower symbol on-line and created my own background paper (maroon and gold are their high school colors) and I also found a picture of the Yale rowing oar on-line. I uploaded this to my Silhouette and created my own print and cut file - so much easier than I thought it would be... my mind has been spinning with possibilities! Some foam adhesive from Therm O Web added the perfect extra dimension.
That's it for today - now I'm off to pack up the Halloween decorations.
The perfect combination of great art and passion are seen on this post.Very creative and nice to know that there are people who are really into artistic designs.
